The Big Finale!

This week my blog is going to discuss the new script treatment that I am writing for the “Big Bang Theory.” Originally I created a story that would discuss each character and it would talk about their alter egos. However, I had to change that around quite a bit because it would not fit into the original format of the big bang scripts. So I decided to go with a story that discussed the first story line, which consisted of Amy conducting a new science experiment on dreams, but she was using her friends as the test subjects. She didn’t want to tell her friends about it because they sometimes get mad when she uses them as her test subjects. The entire episode revolves around Amy sneaking around and trying to get results for her study.

The second storyline revolves around Penny, she has been sick recently and she can’t seem to get out of the house. Since she is feeling a little bit bad for Penny, Amy decides to go over to visit her and take care of her and bring her medicine, or so we think. Next thing you know Amy has once again used Penny as her “lab rat” and made a quick escape. The third and final storyline will revolve around Raj and Howard trying to get the midnight release of a new videogame called “Marvel Comics Kickboxing.” Raj and Howard get into a little bit of trouble when they try to skip the line and compete in a kickboxing competition. After a lot of trouble they finally get the game and head back to Leonard’s house to show him and Sheldon how cool the game is. As they walk in they find Amy in the act of testing her theory out on Leonard and she is standing over his bed (how weird!). At the end of my episode I will have them all in the living room talking and discussing the test results that Amy found about their dreams. Penny is still at home sick, so they make a promise to not let her ever find out that Amy used her again as her “lab rat.”

I ran into a few difficulties writing my spec script because I am not an original writer of the “Big Bang Theory” therefore I don’t have the scientific humor that the writers of this show have. Either way, I tried to manage and make things as funny as I could. One interesting thing that I found was how much my treatment differed from my spec script. A lot of my story lines changed because I had a lot of new ideas as I wrote my new treatment out. I’m pleased with the way things turned out but I will keep you all posted along the way and hopefully by the end I will leave you guys with a sample of my script! So what do you think about my treatment? Give me ideas in the comment section if you think of anything that I should add, take out, or reconsider!

The Great Hook Up of Season 4

Annnnd we’re back! This week I have been looking at Big Bang Theory episodes and looking for one to write a review on. So this week I will be analyzing and picking apart a recent episode of the series. I chose to review Season 8 Episode 4 “The Hook-Up Reverberation” and discuss the good, bad, and the ugly portions of the episode.

comicstore

“The Hook-Up Reverberation” plot revolves around Raj, Penny and Raj’s girlfriend Emily. If you know anything about previous Big Bang episodes then you will recognize the direct reference that this episode has to Season 4’s “The Roommate Transmogrification” episode.

I like the cold open, it gives us a briefing of what is to come in this episode. We can clearly see that Raj now has a new love interest and his friends Sheldon, Leonard, and Howard are talking about how he will lose his friends when he gains a love interest. There was one to two scientific jokes in this opening so that was good to not overdo it because………..

Act 1 is full of great humor. This act does a great job giving a brief backstory as to why Emily does not like penny. They make sure they use Sheldon to reference back and fourth to Raj losing friends because of his new girlfriend. They play between the three storylines in this act and it does not focus on

Act 2 primarily focuses on the guys discussing them buying Stewart’s comic book store. I like how they showed each of the guys discussing it over with their girlfriends; however, I don’t feel like this was totally necessary for the show because it didn’t add as much of a comedic element as it could have. They used a really nice split screen effect for when Emily and Raj went to Penny’s house.split screen As Emily and Raj were leaving Penny shut the door behind her and her and Emily both say “I hate her.” I think this was visually appealing because it isn’t often that Big Bang shows screen effects like that, so it was refreshing to see that camera angle.

Tag at the end was basically the guys discussing how its good that they couldn’t purchase the comic book store. Since the entire episode was filled with great humor I think it is acceptable that this final scene didn’t try to continue with humorous elements, because you don’t want to overdo it.

exx Overall this was a great entertaining episode that left me laughing most of the time, but I thought there were some elements that they could have added to strengthen the show. Since many people may have not gotten the direct reference to season 4 (when Penny and Raj actually hooked up) I think they could have included a flashback scene so that people could see what actually happened. Besides that, I really enjoyed the episode since it was one of the stronger Big Bang Episodes and after surfing the web for more reviews of this episode, it seems as though the critics liked it too. I look forward to the rest of the season so hopefully there is some good material.

In other news, I am still in the process of writing a spec script for The Big Bang Theory. It is coming along quite well and I am getting some great ideas from my classmates. I still have to flush out some ideas to see which ones will work and which ones won’t but I hope to keep you all updated along the way!

Science is Always the KEY!

Key elements are the driving force of any show. They always have been and they remain to be very important with any show because they are some of the most recognizable features of a television series. In this blog post I will be discussing some of the key elements of “The Big Bang theory” that help the show have distinguishable qualities such as the characters, locations types of humor and more. I will be using this blog post as a guide for which elements I want to include in a spec script that I will be writing at the end of this semester. I hope to give you all more details about that soon but for now I will stick to discussing the key elements in which are noticeable in most, if not all Big Bang episodes.

The Charactersbigbangcharactersss2

The characters in Big Bang have always been pretty regular in terms of appearing in each episode. They consist of Sheldon, Penny, Leonard, Raj, Howard, Amy, and Bernadette.

The Apartment 4A

The Gorilla DissolutionOne of the key elements is the apartment complex locations for Big Bang Theory is the apartment complex where Sheldon and Leonard live. Oftentimes you see the gang gathered here during the cold open and often times they are gathered here during the tag at the end of the episode. Lots of great moments happened here like Penny and Leonard’s engagement.

The Lab

thelabThe lab does not always make an appearance in every episode, but it is definitely important especially if the episode is including Sheldon and Amy! This smarty pants couple can be found in the lab together, doing things to enhance their relationship like examining organisms or debating different scientific theories….because what better argument to get into with your boyfriend than one about science, right?

The Living room

REALlivingrooomThe living room is another key location where everyone is often gathered. The living room is home to several home scientific experiments and lots and LOTSSS of gaming. From every episode I have seen, the living room has been a setting. It is good to have a central location such as this because it enhances the connectedness of the characters. All of them are friends, so it only makes sense for them to have a common location where they all come together and do friend type things like telling jokes, spilling their problems, arguing, and even gathering for the not so happy moments.

 Scientifically Giggle worthy!

The humor in this television sitcom is second to none. In previous blog posts I have discussed how the humor incorporates a lot of help especially when it comes to double-checking and making sure the science facts are actually correct. The scientific jokes are definitely a key element to this show. This is because the groups of friends are pretty much tied together due to their scientific strengths and Penny is there to add the “Blonde humor.”

Since the title of this show is “The Big Bang Theory” it is necessary to incorporate science key elements into this show whether they are being made fun of or if they are just being simply stated. The shows title basically tells the audience what they can expect content wise from the show, so they must include something scientific and they do that very well in this show.

Who’s Responsible for this?

The Big Bang Theory provides us with lots of great nerdy, scientific, and comedic material. So this leaves me with the question, who is responsible for all of these gut bursting outpours of laughter? There are twenty-eight writers for The Big Bang theory. TWENTY EIGHT! That is a lot of writers if you ask me. I never would have guessed that this many people are responsible for making this cohesive series all come together. I am amazed by the numbers, however I will focus on three writers for the show because they are the biggest contributors to the show and the creators. Chuck Lorre, and Bill Prady, who also happen to be the executive producers of the show, and Steven Molaro are the three primary writers for this sitcom.

Up first, Chuck Lorre!

 Chuck Lorre

Chuck Lorre is credited as being the lead creator of “The Big Bang Theory”. Lorre has contributed his intellect to 186 episodes from 2006 to present day. Lore he has been credited as being a writer, producer, and a contributor in the musical department. Shows that Lorre has been involved with include “Grace Under Fire,” “Dharma & Greg,” “Roseanne” and “Cybill”.

His IMDb page lists a great quote saying:

I work from a deep sense of insecurity. I have the belief, and I can’t shake it, that there are endless reasons to turn the channel. There are hundreds of channels and entirely other things to do besides TV. And if you make a bad television show there’s no reason for the audience to come back the following week. (Chuck Lorre)

I believe this quote is highly accurate especially coming from a man of his caliber. There are several television channels for people to choose from these days and if you don’t provide the audience with what they want then who is to stop them from changing the channel and not coming back for next week? Chuck Lorre’s involvement with classics such as “Rosanne” and “The Big Bang Theory” show us that in order to keep a series going and in order to keep your audience, you must “work from a deep sense of insecurity” as Lorre says. Complacency isn’t something he gets comfortable with and that is evident since he continues to create and write consistently good shows.

Next up, Bill Praddy.

Bill prady

Bill Praddy is one of the creators of The Big Bang Theory and he has also contributed to writing some of the sitcoms episodes, 186 episodes to be exact. Praddy has been writing for this series since 2006 and he continues to write material to present day. His past includes writing several childhood shows including “Miss Piggy’s Hollywood”, “Presidents Inaugural Celebration for Children”, “Dream On”, “The Cosby Show” and many more.

Last but certainly not least, Steven Molaro!

 Bill Prady, Steven Molaro

Steven is responsible for writing several of my favorite Nickelodeon childhood shows! These would include your typical 90’s kids shows like: All That, Zoey 101, Drake and Josh, The Amanda Show and ICarly. The list of shows that Molaro has contributed to is very extensive. So I was not surprised to see that he is a main writer for The Big Bang Theory. Steven has written 148 ever amusing episodes between 2007-2015. His IMDb page credits him as being noted as a Producer, Writer, and Miscellaneous Crew. He is highly involved in the writing industry and I can’t wait to see what fresh episode ideas he comes up with for the rest of the Big Bang season.

jim parsonsIn more recent news, Jim Parsons (Sheldon) received his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as well as his own wax figure! So a HUGE congratulations to Jim!

Say it with more DIALOGUE!

This week’s blog post is all about dialogue. Some of you might be wondering, “What is dialogue?” Well that’s what I’m here for! If we look at the Dictionary.com definition, it defines dialogue as when a conversation is being held between two or more people. Dialogue involves exchanging opinions on a particular issue. With that being said, there is constantly dialogue that revolves around an issue or scientific idea in each episode of The Big Bang Theory.

The dialogue in Big Bang Theory is quirky and quickly humorous. This show is set around a bunch of nerdy best friends who always have something to say. So you can pretty much expect to hear intelligent humor as well. I found an article that discussed how the show finds a way to balance the jokes, scientific elements, sitcom. The science advisor in this article discusses how he must have the perfece amount of symmetry between these three elements in order to make the scientific dialogue work alongside the show’s humor. You can check out the entire article here at: http://www.symmetrymagazine.org/article/march-2012/the-brain-behind-tvs-the-big-bang-theory

The characters speak on a level that requires some basic scientific knowledge. Without this knowledge, many people might not be able to catch the humor that is engrained within the dialogue of this show. For example, if Sheldon goes on a rant about protons and neutrons, many people might not understand it if they have no prior scientific knowledge. I found an excerpt below that accurately describes some basic science dialogue about protons (it is from episode 13 series 8 titled, The Anxiety Optimization.)

Scene: The apartment.

Leonard: Okay, we’re headed out, see you later.

Sheldon: Before you leave, could you test these noise-cancelling headphones?

Leonard: Yeah, sure.

Sheldon: Okay. Go ahead.

Leonard: Hello, can you hear me? Sheldon, I haven’t changed the filter in the water pitcher in two years.

Penny: Uh, Bernadette’s nickname for you is the virgin piña colada.

Leonard: Your George Lucas autograph is really a me autograph.

Penny: Yeah, once I was too lazy to walk across the hall, so I used your toothbrush.

Leonard: Ooh, and one time when you were asleep, Amy totally took off her… and that’s why you’re the best roommate ever.

Sheldon: Aw, now I’m sad I didn’t hear it.

Penny: So what do you need the headphones for?

Sheldon: Well, I’ve been struggling for months to come up with a theory of dark matter that doesn’t make protons decay. I’m hoping to finally tackle it by optimising my work environment. See, I’ve got, uh, my tea is at the perfect sipping temperature. Uh, I have fleece-lined boxer shorts to keep my tushie toasty. And then, oh, last but not least, this inspirational cat poster improved with the reassuring face of physics renegade Richard Feynman.

Penny: Is that why you had to take him to Office Depot last night?

Leonard: I don’t want to talk about it. There, the place is all yours.

Penny: Yeah, have fun.

Sheldon: Oh, I will, nothing more fun than a paradigm-shifting evening of science.

Penny: And you thought it was soaping me up in the shower.

Leonard: Bye.

Sheldon: Okay. Here we go. Proton decay. Proton decay. (Time shift) Proton decay. Proton decay. (Time shift) Proton decay. Proton decay.

Leonard: Hey, we’re home. Any progress?

Sheldon: How could there be, with these constant interruptions?

Penny: I love him, but if he’s broken, let’s not get a new one.

As you can see during the opening sequence of this episode, dialogue is heavily used in this show. Although its heavily used, the writers make good use of pauses between certain characters dialogue. I believe Sheldon has some of the best, most quirky punch lines in the show. This is because they allow him to be overdramatic and way more outspoken than your typical “nerd.” Sheldon seems to have mastered speaking out amongst his friends and not being socially awkward as your stereotypical nerd would be.

I have yet to find a Big Bang episode that didn’t use a lot of dialogue, but there have been moments where silence has spoken louder than words. An example of this type of silent dialogue would be in the episode when Howard’s mother died. There wasn’t much dialogue during this part of the episode since it was supposed to evoke more of a sad emotion. This can easily be done with silence. During death scenes or sad scenes there is generally less dialogue because the audience knows what to infer from the silence.

When you watch a sitcom do you prefer there to be a lot of dialogue or do you prefer to see more on screen and hear less dialogue? Comment or tweet me your responses!

The Comic Book Store Regeneration

Hey Getting Jazzy With It Viewers! For todays blog post I am going to be discussing an episode from the most recent season of The Big Bang Theory. If you haven’t been keeping up, we are currently in season 8 of the big bang theory. Today I am going to analyze the acts, scenes and storylines in the episode titled “The Comic Book Store Regeneration”. I included a breakdown below about each of the scenes that appeared within the episode. I went through and timed each scene/storyline and each is roughly 2 minutes and the credits are about 30 seconds, both opening and closing. The opening scene is not a “cold open” or a teaser style. It does not give you a briefing of what is to come; it just goes into the main storylines.

  • Act 1
    • Scene 1- Sheldon in the lab with his girlfriend Amy telling a Thomas Edison joke. He gets mad at her (This scene was roughly 2 minutes not including the opening credits that follow)
    • Opening Credits
  • Act 2
    • Scene1- Howard and Bernadette are talking about Howard’s mom and him being normal again with his mom since they haven’t been getting along.
    • Scene 2- Sheldon and Penny are talking. Sheldon is in a bad mood over the stream theory because his girlfriend helped his rival prove him wrong. Penny is trying to give him advice but he isn’t accepting to it. He pitches a fit and balls up a dryer sheet and apologizes haha (great scene!)
    • Scene 3- Raj, Howard, Bernadette and Leonard are at the comic book store. Howard sees his mom’s furniture in the comic book store and he is annoyed with the owner, Stuart, because he is mooching off of Howard’s mom.
    • Scene 4- Penny and Sheldon. Penny is folding laundry and Sheldon takes over. He uses a pen example so he can learn how to let things go, but he can’t let the pen go (which is a good indicator of why he cant get over his troubles with Amy). Sheldon tells penny that Amy has been giving her puzzles to test the chimpanzees in her lab; this way penny takes Sheldon’s side and is angry with Amy also.
  • Act 3
    • Scene 1- (continued from scene 4) Sheldon and Penny are discussing the puzzles and apes that Amy was comparing her to.
    • Scene 2- Howard and Bernadette are in the comic book store. Howard wants Bernadette to support him in his anger towards Stuart, but she is trying to be the voice of reason.
    • Scene 3- Raj and Leonard are at the Deli. They see an actor who they admire (Nathan Fillian).
    • Scene 4- Amy goes to see Sheldon and Penny comes out to greet her from her apartment to confront her and her secret puzzle test.
    • Scene 5- back at the deli with Raj and Leonard, they want to take a picture with him but they don’t believe him now
    • Scene 6- Penny is telling Leonard about the puzzles and Leonard says that Sheldon gave it to him too! Sheldon and Amy show up at the comic book store. Howard and Bernadette show up and Howard is still mad about the mom situation with Stuart. Howard receives a phone call from his aunt saying his mom died. Sheldon tells him that he has friends to support him with his mother’s recent death.
  • Act 4
    • Scene 1- the comic book store guy says he would have been homeless if Howard’s mom didn’t take him in. All of the friends reflect on how Mrs. Wallowitz touched their lives and Leonard proposes a toast for to her for being a mother to all of them.

Overall there were 4 acts with one scene in act 1 and one scene in act 4. During act 2 there were 4 storylines and during act 3 there were 6 storylines. When I compared this show to another episode I found the same results. This included 4 acts, with one scene at the beginning; one scene at the end, and about 4 to 6 scenes within acts two and three. When you compare those numbers to the breakdown below they appear to be the same. Even without the commercials, the show comes out to being around 20 to 22 minutes long. At the end of The Big Bang theory episodes, there is not an end tag; it simply just plays the credits. This is my analysis but you all should check out my classmate’s blog to see what she found on the format of The Big Bang Theory! She will also be giving regular updates on the show so check her out https://brittwade.wordpress.com

If you have any questions about the breakdown of the show please feel free to comment and let me know what you think!

Roll Call (The who’s who of Big Bang Theory)

   Penny

I’m a vegetarian, except fish and the occasional steak. I LOVE STEAK! –Penny

Penny is a 22 year old who has moved into the apartment right across from Leonard & Sheldon. After breaking up with her boyfriend she decided to move from her home in Nebraska to live in the sunshine state of California. She spends her time in California working as a waitress at the Cheesecake Factory and she aspires to be an actress. Penny is not the smartest cookie in the jar as you can see from her humorous quote above, but she is usually the voice of reason or common sense in her group of friends. Penny develops the plot by helping her male counterparts when it comes to social life experiences and dealing with relationship drama.

Leonard

I believe God created the world in 6 days and on the 7th he made you to annoy me –Leonard

Leonard is an experimental physicist at Caltech. He is Sheldon’s roommate and he is probably the most socialized amongst his group of nerdy friends. Leonard is also known as Penny’s boyfriend, which is quite humorous to think about when you compare his 173 IQ to Penny’s high social status but not so high IQ rating. Leonard was always teased as a young child so now he aspires to fit in with the socialites and step out of his comfort zone by venturing away from his nerdy zone.

Amy

At this moment I find myself craving human intimacy and physical contact. –Amy

Amy is a Neurobiologist who also doubles as Sheldon’s girlfriend. After making a contract with her mom she has agreed to date once a year and that does not include any form of physical contact ESPECIALLY coitus. But after a little time to act romantic with one another, kissing became a go to for the couple. Amy is your average nerdy smart girl who enjoys having an awkward but sustainable social life. Her motivations within the episode would consist of dating and being physically intimate with Sheldon, however she has to also uphold her mothers contract.

 sheldon

Ah memory impairment. The free prize at the bottom of a vodka bottle. –Sheldon

Sheldon is a theoretical physicist with an IQ of 187. He and Amy seem perfect for each other seeing as though they are both extremely smart and geeky. You can always find Sheldon wearing a nerdy superhero shirt of some sort in each episode. He is the source of many funny punch lines and puns in the show. As a child Sheldon took up many experiments in his spare time, and then he attended college at age 11. He is always claiming to be the perfect human specimen, but as we all know… his social skills are far from being the perfect human specimen. However he provides us with good entertainment anyways. Sheldon’s motivations consist of being the smartest most perfect “human specimen.” So throughout episodes you can find him being a super nerd.

 Raj

With your American accent, everything you say sounds stupid. –Raj

Raj has moved to California as an astrophysicist from India. He is best friends with Sheldon, Leonard, and Howard. He spends most of his time arguing with his friends about girls, but how would he know? After all he only talks to girls when he is intoxicated with alcohol. Besides that, he could use some work in the dating department.

 Howard

The way I see it, I’m halfway to pity sex! –Howard

Howard is a 27 year old engineer who lives with his mother (or as some people say, his mother lives with him). Howard is the only one of the four guy friends who does not happen to have his PhD but he does speak multiple languages in which he uses to impress women…but lets be real, is he really that impressive, ladies? He furthers the plot by offering lots of comedic relief especially when it comes to relationships.

Characters motivations and Plot Drivers

All of the characters listed above are recurring actors on the show and they all drive the plot in many ways. I like to say that they drive the plots by focusing on their shared interests such as relationships, comic books, IQ scores, and comparing who is the smartest or who is the most knowledgeable about a subject matter. In simple terms, the conflict stems from everyone trying to be the smartest person in the room. They want to be seen as the love guru, or the comic book king so they can outshine their friends. This would not be seen as striving for an object (unless they are trying to score a date with a guy/goal) most times it is just striving to achieve a goal that they can boast about to their genius counterparts.

So who is your favorite Big Bang Theory Character and why? Comment below and Like my blog post! See y’all next week!

Audience is Key

Audience is the most important part of any show on air. After all, without a regularly attentive large audience, the show cannot thrive! If I had to guess off the top of my head I would say that the audience of the Big Bang Theory would definitely range from 18-45 years of age. This show incorporates several scientific jokes where you would need to be scientifically literate in some form. If you were not knowledgeable of any basic scientific knowledge, (or if you may not like science that much) then this show wouldn’t appeal to you.
audience

Since the shows original release date in 2007, it has been pretty widely accepted. The show isn’t specifically a niche show with a cult following since it plays on one of the major broadcast networks. CBS has done a great job of airing this show as well as sharing the programming with other networks like TBS. If the show was more niche content then viewers would have to dig through online streaming services to watch their show, more simply, it wouldn’t be as readily available as it is on television. The show has other smaller viewing arenas where fans can watch the show, however that is not its primary platform.

tomato

Many critics say that The Big Bang Theory would be rated around a “C” if it were on a grading scale. A wide variety of critics from “Rotten Tomatoes” report saying this because the jokes eventually die off as the seasons continue and they start recycling funny materials that the audience has seen before. Aside from that people say that the scriptwriters for the show have “a lack of motivation” to keep the show just as humorous as when it first started. As a former critic of this show I can agree with these arguments because I thought that the jokes were super corny and that Sheldon saying “penny, penny, penny!” would get old and annoying, real quick! As far as I know The Big Bang Theory has not been a source of controversy unless it was dealing with a scene in a specific episode. That is to be argued as any other opinion so take that with a grain of salt when I say “controversial” because it probably was not THAT controversial, just something for people to stir up talk. As I continue with these blog posts remember that buzz from audience and critics as well as a consistent audience is always going to be key to a show’s success. Without a good audience, a show can’t thrive.

Check back next week for a new blog post!

Transmedia Shmedia

Transmedia storytelling is a method that is becoming more commonly used amongst fans of all sorts of media. Its one of the best ways to keep your audience engaged with the show even once its season ends on television. In the most basic sense, transmedia storytelling is taking one form of media, for example a TV show and dispersing its contents amongst multiple delivery channels so that fans to continue their viewing pleasures online or offline.

“The Big Bang Theory” has a few transmedia storytelling methods and ways that their fans can make use of the Internet through their love of the show. The first and primary transmedia method would be through CBS because they are the distributors of the show. Their website offers previous episodes where the fans can catch uScreen Shot 2015-02-04 at 3.06.48 PMp on what they missed from previous weeks, and even get sneak peaks of the new episodes to come. Throuch the CBS website, fans can also communicate and reach out to other fans. Check out their website at http://www.cbs.com/shows/big_bang_theory/video/ . As for contests, CBS does not sponsor anything directly where you can win a chance to see the Big Bang characters, or filming. However, I found a few radio stations that offer small scale contests where you can enter to win prizes that relate to the show! These prizes range from T-shirts to other Big Bang apparel. In terms of other online contents where the fans can connect with the Internet, I would consider the most recent and most popular form to be the social media site, Twitter!

The show has its own twitter account which can be found here https://twitter.com/BigBang_CBS  This however isn’t the only website that can be considered part of the shows transmedia storytelling platform because many of “The Big Bang Theory” cast and crew members have a separate or personal twitter account were they can talk to their fans and post what they are doing in their everyday life, as well as when they are filming or just hanging out with the other actors from the show.

bigbangcartoonAs far as “The Big Bang Theory” having a comic book or another non computer transmedia source, I found a few online created for comic con and other conventions, but I didn’t see any official connection to the show besides the fact that it was created by fans. However I will be on the lookout and I will update you all if I run across anything that is worth checking out! Check back next week for my next blog post….BANG!

The Big Big BANG!

Our whole universe was in a hot dense state,

Then nearly fourteen billion years ago expansion started. Wait…

The Earth began to cool,

The autotrophs began to drool,

Neanderthals developed tools,

We built a wall (we built the pyramids),

Math, science, history, unraveling the mysteries,

That all started with the big bang!

-Barenaked Ladies (2007)

“Big Bang Theory Theme”

This semester for my digital media class I will be writing about the show The Big Bang Theory. I didn’t originally like this show, but after my mom introduced me to it I found it to be very comical and easy to get into. With that being said, I chose this show because it somehow finally appealed to me after several failed attempts and now I like it. In this blog post you can expect to find some great information revolving around the show, the production personnel, the cast members, the shows timeline and some information about the ratings.

The Big Bang Theory is a comedy that first aired on September 24th, 2007. The show revolves around a popular girl named Penny who moves into an apartment complex in Pasadena, California where she lives next door to two nerdy physicist named Leonard and Sheldon who also happen to be very socially awkward. Throughout their time together, Penny teaches Leonard and Sheldon about the more fun, exciting, and social aspects of life outside of the laboratory. The three friends spend most of their time with their colleagues Howard and Raj. The main characters are Leonard, Sheldon, Penny, Howard, Raj, Bernadette and Amy.

BBTB1

According to IMBD, the show’s run time is approximately 22 minutes, it is rated TV-14, and it is distributed by CBS. Based on the IMBD ratings, the show rates an 8.4 out of 10. The show continues to run currently in 2015, which gives it almost 8 years of running time since it first aired in 2007. Two companies, Chuck Lorre Productions as well as Warner brothers Television Company produce this show. This is my first post of the semester, but  you can expect to find blog posts that revolve around this show and all of the humor it has to offer, so stay tuned!
